Woe to those who are dishonest! Not only do they lose all human respect, but they cannot take up any public office either. So let us be honest always, casting all bad thoughts from our minds, and keeping our hearts always turned to God, who created us and placed us on earth in order to know, love and serve Him in this life, and then enjoy Him eternally in the next (CS, no. 15, pp. 74f.).
정직하지 못한 그들에게 비통함(woe)이 있을진저! 그들은 진정 모든 사람들의 존경을 잃을 뿐만 아니라, 그 어떤 공직(public office)도 차지할 수 없다. 그러니 우리 마음으로부터 모든 나쁜 생각들을 던져버리고, 우리 마음을 항상 하느님께 향하게 하면서, 항상 정직하자. 하느님께서는, 우리가 이 생애에(in this life) 그분을 알고(know), 사랑하며(love) 그분을 섬기도록(serve) 하기 위해, 그리고 다음 생애에는(in the next) 그분을 영원히 기뻐하도록 하기 위해 우리를 창조하셨고, 이 땅에 두셨다 (CS, no. 15, pp. 74f.).
