The lot of chosen souls is to suffer. God, the author of all grace and of every gift leading to salvation, has decreed that glory will be ours on condition that we endure suffering in a Christian spirit (Letters II, p. 262).
선택된 영혼들의 운명은 고통받는 것이다. 구원으로 이끄는 모든 은총과 모든 선물의 장본인이신 하느님께서는, 우리가 그리스도교 정신으로 고통을 견뎌낸다면(on condition that) 영광이 우리 것이 될 것이라 명하셨다(decree).(Letters II, p. 262)
